After a week with my head in my laptop, setting up my new blog site, I wanted to get back to taking a few pictures today. To that end I decided to write a blog I’ve intended to write for a while now, following my purchase of Gered Mankowitz’s book – Photographs.
I really enjoy browsing through photography books like this, even more so when the subject matter incorporates my other great passion – music. The images in this particular book start in the 1960’s, a bit early for me, but then move through the 1970’s, into the 1980’s and on to the 1990’s and Oasis. I was a teenager in the 1970’s and the book features lots of album covers I’m very familiar with. It’s really interesting reading snippets about the ideas behind the artwork and photography.

The book is packed with great images and includes really interesting music business narrative. It also follows the ups and downs of Gereds photography career. The good times were very good but there were lots of troughs. Photographers in this genre appear to go in and out of favour, sometimes on a musicians whim. The book describes how getting work, when the music photography dried up could be particularly tough.
It’s a big heavy book. I initially thought the it was expensive at £45 but once it arrived I decided that it was actually very good value. It’s a fantastic coffee table book to pick up now and again and look through. The pages regularly get thumbed through by visitors to our house.

I really enjoyed this book, well I still am enjoying it. One of the best books I’ve purchased in this genre.

The new site looks good Steve, I’m on a roadtrip right now and only have my phone. Did you purposely not include like buttons on your posts? I don’t see it, and the JetPack app isn’t working well for me right now, which seems to be the only option. Maggie
Thank you Maggie, hope you’re having a good time on your road trip. That’s a good point re the like button. I’ve checked and the theme doesn’t have a like button feature built in. There is a work around using another plugin so I’m going to look at sorting that over the weekend 🙂
Hi Maggie, I’ve sorted the like button 🙂
